Biography
I came to Vermont as a child in 1985, surviving the atrocity that took place in Cambodia. The drastic migration from the Southeast Asian tropics to the snowy mountains of Vermont was a life changing experience for me and my family. But the peaceful beauty of the Green Mountains captivated my family and we knew that Vermont was our new home, our new beginning. I attended schools in Colchester, Vermont and received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Vermont in Medical Technology.
My passion for the visual and graphic arts started when I was eight. This early interest launched my foundation as a landscape and portrait painter. My experimentation with photography ignited during my years in high school. There I came to a realization of how powerful photography can be as a medium to capture and preserve fleeting, irretrievable moments of our daily lives and the natural environment around us. This realization is apparent in many of my black and white photography prints.
Past childhood experiences taught me that everything changes with time, and our lives are strings of snap shots of moments that can never be brought back if we do not preserve them. I believe that memories can fade, but through the lenses and brushes of an artist they can be revitalized and those precious moments can be experienced over and over again. Today I strive to capture those ephemeral slices of time through my paintings and photography.
